APPROVED PROJECT:It’s On Cougs situational short film PSAsAmount: 4
Time: 90 seconds each
Staff: It’s On Cougs committee, outside resources
Producer/Director: Lance Lee
Scriptwriter: Alexan Ranney
Theme: Everyday (Campus)
Situational fictional stories based on real circumstances (e.g. Studying, Partying, Texting). Stories will be explicitly serious. Each will be filmed from the perspective of “outside looking in.” Emphasis on “captured in real time” with social media style capture. Filmed entirely with iPhone X (e.g. short film made with iPhone) and the assistance of gimbals, monopods, and iPro Lenses.
The PSAs will focus on the interactions of a student in an average situation (studying in the library, in a Todd Hall lecture, hanging out at a party, texting someone thru a dating app, eating dinner, etc.) and a friend or stranger (depends on the scenario). The short stories launch in the middle of specific scenarios, build tension with inappropriate but unclear behavior, shift suddenly with a subtle action that oversteps a boundary, and resolves with an outsider recognizing the harassment or assault before intervening. The PSA ends with a message via narration about recognizing subtle signs and intervening when necessary … “It’s on us. It’s on Cougs.”
It’s On Cougs does not only serve to help victims recognize harassment or assault but also outsiders who have opportunities to intervene. In all documented instances of sexual violence, two-thirds of victims between the ages of 18 and 29 were acquaintances with the perpetrator. It’s important that, in these videos, we show real and relatable situations that effectively demonstrate the kind of circumstances students will encounter during their time at college. These videos will serve as an educational primer and may be supplemented by other educational resources (such as Greek programming or freshman intro courses). The videos can be used in a variety of ways, watched in any order, and will come with an RSO DIY booklet for future low-budget PSA productions.
Final projected products:
3 PSAs timed at 90 seconds each, DIY booklet for future RSOs, a public map of on-campus resources for RSO productions, and video tutorials for production software
